Wall Paintings
The church contains a considerable wealth of wall paintings; in the chancel these are fourteenth century showing the Annunciation and Scenes from the Life of St John the Baptist; whilst in the nave there are many painted texts with associated decorative borders dating from the seventeenth century and 1701. Historically the two fourteenth century paintings are interesting because while the Church is now dedicated to St Mary the Virgin, before the reformation the church was dedicated to St John the Baptist.

Detailed Condition Survey
In late 2011 a survey of the paintings was undertaken. This was funded by a generous donation supplemented by the Parochial Church Council.

The survey by the conservator Peter Martindale revealed that the fourteenth century wall paintings are in need of conservation. The detailed report may be downloaded here.

Friends Contibution
The Friends helped with the project by approaching charities for financial assistance with the restoration. In total contrbutions of £6,900 were obtained.

Completed Work
The conservation was completed in late 2014 and a detailed report on the work may be downloaded here.
